I was hoping to have some pictures from ZooZort today. Kai said he was a wallaby, albino skunk, and a few other animals. Unfortunately we didn't get any of those pictures yet.

Kai was playing outside when I picked him up, so at least I have this dusty picture from today.

Today Gammie and Auntie Dawn visit for a belated birthday for Dawn and Kai's birthday celebration, the weekend edition.

One thing we wanted to make were the popovers from Jordan Pond House from Acadia National Park. The recipe was quite simple, but we did need to get it ready last night and let it sit in the refrigerator. Nothing too magical to add other than some eggs and whole milk to the mix. Here Heidi is putting the mix into the tin.

And here is the finished product, just like in Maine.

In the meantime, we think this is the first time Gammie saw the piano at our place, so she played a tune.

Here is our meal of popovers and yogurt chicken on the grill.

The request for the cake was kultehundt. I know that is not the correct spelling, but Google can't figure it out either, and I think I would just prefer to pretend I'm correct in my mind...it's really good cake, if it is cake - I'm honestly not sure what it is other than really, really good.

Afterwards we went out for a quick ride on the bike.

This might be earliest I'll post to the blog, about 6PM local time because I don't think anything else will happen noteworthy today.

It was back to the pool at Ms. Marie's lessons. We missed the first three sessions because we were on vacation. Virginia, Kai's friend from Gold Room about 5 years ago (or more) was in the class. It was nice to catch up with them.

Afterwards, we met some other friends (Kai's friend Evelyn from Little Red) for time at the Middleton City Pool. Kai is in red off in the distance. It was about 90 today, so a nice day to be outside.

There will be one thing memorable (or should I say two)...there was a "contamination incident" around 2:15PM. It wasn't a big deal because the pool would normally shut down at 2:30 for their scheduled break. Apparently someone vomited in the diving area, and the water is shared around the pools.

After that, we all got in for about 30 more minutes until....you guessed it, contamination incident #2! I'm not sure what happened this time, but this time it took about 45-minutes to clear it out.

In the meantime, we grabbed a slushy and split a hot dog.

We were thinking it would be funny if we got a 3rd contamination, but it was not to be. We stayed until about 5:30 or so. It was a long day in the water.

 Some quick pictures of our 4th of July. One thing we forgot was to take our selfie out front of us wearing red, white and blue.

Instead, we caught the 11:30 showing of Elio, it is a Disney movie.

Afterwards, Kai seemed wiped out, and took a nap.

There is this little game on his tablet where he makes and designs heads.

And then A Capitol Fourth on PBS. We watched it until almost the end - we'll catch the fireworks tomorrow morning.

Just a few pictures from today.

First off, dentist at 8AM. We like our hygienist Jodie...the movie today was Trolls.

In the afternoon, he finished his LEGO project from our vacation. Here is the completed hospital. A lot of nice detail, even a working elevator.

 In the early evening, he started work on his Minecraft LEGO. Part of it is the chicken jockey scene from the movie. You can do a match with the LEGO.

That's all for July 3.

Hopeful to make it to our city pool tomorrow. We have some people we will know there.

Not going to be much today.

At Little Red, they wen to Mr. Marv's garden. It is the first time they have gone there all year as it has either been too rainy or too wet.

They go there to pick the weeds - they put them on a big pile. As a reward, the kids get vegetables to bring home. He brought home some radishes today - I should have taken a picture of them before I cut them up.

Here are some pictures they took while at the garden. I will try to get out there sometime this year.

 

When I picked him up, he was excited to show me his LEGO creation.

He is done with Little Red for the week, as they are off on July 3 and the 4th and then the weekend. I'm hopeful we can do something outside or go bowling - I signed up for free bowling all summer for him, so the cost would only be for me. Dentist at 8AM.

It is Kai's 8th birthday today. Here is excited about the Spongebob theme we got set up for him last night.

We got him all dressed up in his 8-year old shirt and let him open this wand present prior to heading off to Little Red.

When we learned that Tuesday was going to be a pool day, he wanted me to come along, so I did. His class walked from Little Red to the pool. They told me they'd be there around 1PM. Kai is walking with his group, he is wearing orange.

I played with them in the shallow end for a little bit. Then the group got to try out the slide.

Afterwards, he wanted to come home. He fell asleep on the couch for more than an hour.

When he woke up, we had him take his customary picture by the hydrangeas.

I grabbed some Topper Breadsticks for dinner. Afterwards, we had some cake. I baked the cake today from a mix and Heidi put on the whipped topping.
